Entergy Mississippi’s Qualified Site program highlights the Madison County Mega Site

Posted January 7, 2020 in Site Selection

In an area of central Mississippi anchored by Nissan-Canton, Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) has a vision for serving additional automotive suppliers, advanced manufacturers and knowledge-based industries.

The Madison County Mega Site – at more than 1,000 acres – is available for immediate occupation. MCEDA owns 325 acres with the remaining 875 acres under option. Recognizing the importance of speed-to-market, all the assessments and due diligence are complete, and utilities are in place at the site.

The site is an Entergy Qualified Site, has been master-planned and Opinions of Probable Cost and Timeline for Development are available for each parcel. The Madison County Mega Site has approximately two million gallons per day in excess wastewater capacity to meet industry needs.

Location, Location, Location…
The site is within one and a half miles of Interstate 55 via the four-lane Nissan Parkway. Funded with approximately $1 million in grants from the Mississippi Development Authority, Delta Regional Authority, Entergy and MCEDA, the access road into the Madison County Mega Site has been designed and engineered; construction should begin in the first quarter of 2020.

MCEDA’s partnership with Entergy Mississippi makes for a more competitive offering.

Entergy Mississippi’s qualified site designation ensures that certain due diligence and preparation has been completed reducing risk and the time needed to occupy the site. The Mississippi Public Service Commission recently approved Entergy Mississippi’s new $57 million transmission and substation project to be constructed at the site. The new substation is scheduled to be in service by December of 2021 and will initially provide 80 megawatts of capacity with the capability to expand and serve over 250 megawatts from the robust 230 kilovolt transmission system. Upon final project completion, the substation will be served by three independent transmission sources resulting in remarkable redundancy and extraordinary substation reliability.

MCEDA can offer bottom-line advantages.

The professionals at MCEDA look to identify project drivers and provide real-time data not accessible via traditional economic development methods. They understand complex financial models and know how to construct deals to achieve client objectives.
